I'm not absolutely sure how this works but from what I understand I could be in some deep sh*t... What happend: Well it all started with me buying a town from timbobzimbob, which at the end turned out fine. What I didn't know was that the original owner of this town is Gregor1999, until I did a little scanning. I notified all of the players that had protections in the town and asked them to remove their properties, Gregor1999 had a lever. A couple of days later when i rebuilt the wall I saw that he was the one that put up the town posts, so I realised he's the original owner of this town. Since then I have sent him several mails and PMs asking him to remove them, yesterday he finally answered, but his answer was not what I was expecting. I was to fall under the rule of his nation where he was the "dictator(his own words)". Meaning, according to him, that I had to build a statue of him in the town, and kick out anyone he wanted from it and give him all their items in their chests, as well as carrying out any of his orders. I have screenshots of this, but this post is not about what he said. I of course, refused, why would I buy a town just to be ruled by someone else? And the answer was that he was to take the town back in that case. When asking in the chat I realised that he actually could take the town back just like that. So I ask, how is it that a mayor can take his town back without any consequenses whenever he feels like it? Doesn't that technically mean that I as a mayor can sell my town over and over again and gain lots of money? I have so far spent more than 100k buying and building this town, during the past week. And now apparently he can just end my work and do whatever he wants with it, and I have nothing to say about it? How is it that someone can sell a town and still have the right to reclaim it?
Thank you for linking. However I feel this is irrelevant in my situation as no deal was made under the table between me and gregor. I mean there is no deal to be honored between us, he just popped up with his demands and it sucks that I have to take the blow as I didn't even buy it from Gregor but from tim.
when you buy the town, you don;t officially own it, gregor does. He has full rights, he can do whatever he likes with it at any time.
I am now aware of that. And I'm now hoping for some sort of special treatment, I will of course not complain about not knowing anything about that rule. The thing is I was always assuming timbobzimbob was the owner and the only thing that was said about this was that he would remain as an owner because I'm a resident, other than that it was mine to do whatever I wanted. I might add gregor was not listed as owner nor as member of the region.
it would be really nice if there was a way to actually transfer ownership of land. is this something that really can't be done or is it something that just isn't available?
This has been suggested and put into consideration. And Nobleghost, you should have asked timbobzimbob if he was the original owner of the town.
Indeed I should, how redicilous of me, I mean people these days come across towns like nothing there's no knowing who owns what. I would've if I was aware what could have happened.. Or what will happen as it seems.
I wish we could give everyone special treatment, I am in a similar, but much less torturous position, I own Miami, which is officially owned by Canada_Blue, a player who has quit ECC.
Well I guess your out of luck here. Since Gregor is the original owner of the town, as said in the above quote, he can request to be given back ownership of his town. Kinda reminds me of the rules on loans. Not supported by ECC = can't ban when something goes wrong.
See in your case I can't see why ownership is not transferred to you, it takes 2 minutes to do and has no negative impact on anyone, sometimes rules SHOULD be bended... The difference here is that a mayor can actually sell his town as many times as he wants and request it back after a couple of days, without breaking any rules. How does that not disturb anynone?
Soo... I should just quit, wait for andrew to wake up and give gregor ownership so he can take credit for my work?
Side note here, we are actually considering about changing this rule. The current stand on it is this: if there is sufficient evidence that the loaner had no intent of paying the money back, he can be punished for scamming.
I don't see the problem here. Just take everything that's yours and leave. I might be opening storage facilities in my town (mayor has quit) and I will sell you one when I build them. Until then you practically have one week to get everything out and safely away. Side note: Gregor cannot claim your stuff because you have not griefed or scammed. If any harassment comes in from the user contact a mod and don't give in. You got one week and you better hurry.
The problem is that I've unknowingly spent lots of time and money on a town that's not mine, and now Gregor can just take credit for it all. As of now it's one statue, one huge palace and another 40x40 house in the making. I don't want to lose all my effort just because Gregor didn't report timbobzimbob until I was the owner, why the hell did he wait? The huge issue here is that mayors can keep doing this I don't understand why this isn't taken care of? Right now I can apply for mayor, flatten a town and sell it, it's not hard to sell a flattened 200x200 town. After a day or two I take it back, and repeat, making huge amounts of money...
