After about 6 years, I am going to be building a PC. I’m getting suggestions from anyone who built a PC what parts you got that are either good or that I should avoid. Here’s what I’m looking for: Price Range: $1000-$2000 At least 1080p but a cheap 1440p is good too 60 FPS At least 4tb storage. I have more things I’m looking for, but I can’t find my list rn. Will update later.
A local smaller computer retailer (not talking big box stores here) can be a valuable asset to discuss your exact requirements. We have several awesome local "geeks" that will guide you in the right direction and hopefully you can find one in your area. The advantage is that they are typically gamers themselves and have vast knowledge about both current and future trends. A good one will be able to guide you to what and where to buy and will typically only charge 1-200 to install and setup and is well worth the investment imho.
My friend has always had an i5 and loves it. All of my PC's have had an i7, however for a slightly more limited budget an i5 would be a great choice.
Also an SSD harddrive is great for getting shorter load times. Brought my Cities:Skylines load time from about 10mins to less than 5.
@Jdawger Honestly check best buy... when my old desktop crashed ( at launch of No Man's Sky) I made a parts list for a new build and had added most items to a shopping cart, then saw a best buy ad. I was able to buy my desktop for less than I could have purchased the components for, now this is when crypto miners were buying up all the GPU's so maybe it's a different story now. Maybe also go with a NVMe SSD, if you can fit it in or find it on sale. Nyteclaw has one and I think he loves it. Dont use dual graphic cards, just spend more on a better one if you were thinking about using duals, they simply don't give the quality you would expect, ie it's not truly double.
Do you need a monitor with your setup (or multiple)? Is cheaper better or are you willing to go higher on your price range for more power? Are you looking for other peripherals? What games do you usually play?
Im not sure youd get away with 4tb at that price but as far as the rest, i reccomend an i5 or an i7 as the processor mobo of your choice, roghly 16gb of ram and as far as graphics, get the saphire rx 580 8gb nitro plus, its an amazing card and ive been using saphire for years with no issue. Also stay away from western digital.... those drives tend to fall apart after not too long, ive had nothing but trouble with wd. Go for seagate
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/prL3MZ Built this with my son for his room.. No complaints yet although 4K is possible you need a good monitor. Also VR ready. Can’t build a better one for the price imo.. Good luck
