So, Recently i was inspired by a video i saw on YouTube where someone built a very, very large Railway system throughout their map. Inspired by this, I've decided i'm going to take up the idea, and move with it! Starting very soon, the "EcoCity Railroad Company", headed by me and with the help of whoever wishes to donate their labor or resources, will begin to attempt to connect every city which wishes to be connected to the others, for a fair fair price of FREE!!! The one thing we do ask, though, is that if you are able to donate anything, the main things which will be needed for this venture are: Iron Ingots(For rails) Gold Ingots(For powered Rails) Redstone(For powered Rails and Redstone Torches) Smooth Stone(For buildings, insides of tunnels, ect) If, though, you cannot donate, we are purchasing these resources, but we prefer to buy them at cost, or a bit above, server price. One of the main things we will be in need of, in addition, is labor. If any of you would like to donate your time, should you not have anything to do or you just wish to be in the credits of history for the construction of this great railway system, you can help us by Constructing and Digging tunnels, along with, in the future, lying track, and constructing track with allocated resources. Anyone who wishes to join in on this venture, mind you you will not receive benefits from the construction, in the future if we chose to charge people to use these railways, you will receive a portion o' that. A little extra Info: If you wish to sell Gold, Redstone, or smooth-stone, you may do so using our "sell" signs at the "Touch of Athens" store at the west of spawn. Prices may not be double the server price, but remember this is all for a public project! In addition, you can donate money using the Donation Sign, donating $100 gives you a piece of Nether-rack. All money will be used to support the construction of this system.

You didn't offer to do it for free though, Mike. People usually jump at the chance when they hear the word "Free", including me. XD @Kukelekuuk I haven't decided yet, but i will tell you in the future when i am done with an administrator-directed job. I'm currently debating between two smaller tunnels, or one 5x5 tunnel. What do you think?
I'll join. But I'm still in the process of building my town, so I don't have much time to build a station (I plan on building one however). I have plans on connecting it too (I'm building massive road(s)/viaduct(s) that will connect my city with the rest of the world (I'm @ x = -2056, z = -2097 -> roughly), and once Andrew updates the world render, you'll see I've started on the roads -> they go towards S and W). So those portions of the rail system will be done by me (the rails will be underneath the road). Once I get the walls of my town done, I'll do the station first thing though, and start the "tunnels" under the roads. If you want to see whats going on in game, just /msg me and Ill let you through the gate in the portal room. Edit: the city is Aurora AND... my tunnels will be 3x3 to stay along w/ my road Edit (again): I'm also mining out a huge area underground for a cavern, so if you need cobble/coal to make smooth stone, you can come get it from my city... for $FREE.99!
i think a 5x5 is a good size or make 2 tunnels of 3x3 (those are the sizes of my now partly rolledback station)

this is what the my station looks like: the tunnels are 3x3 and there are 2 next to each other my plan was to have 2 rails in every tunnels
Just a little note. This action has been HALTED until further notice. I badly mis-caculated and this project has literally bankrupted me. Two days ago i started with 27,000 dollars, and i only have 700 dollars remaining. Until some un-forseen time in the future, this project has been forced to be suspended. Sorry guys... User economy has frowned at me this time. Buying gold at such a high price really effects your money.
Just because you (and other users that are working on the project -> like me -> I've started my tunnels, station, etc) don't have enough gold, doesn't mean you have to stop construction all together. You can probably still continue to build the tunnels/causeways/bridges/rail beds that the rails will go along. That way, as you are building these (and getting stone etc) to build this stuff, you may find gold, iron, etc to build rails, along with other resources you can sell to buy more supplies (such as gold). You have to continue forging ahead, or it will not be completed (which will be a sad day, since the idea of the railway is great). So my suggestion is to keep working towards the goal; get the bridges, tunnels, stations, and rail beds (places where the rails will go -> clearly marked to stop people from building there), then, once WE (yes, this is a community project, so we have to work together on this) get enough supplies, we can outfit each station (if not done so already) and then start connecting each station. We can do this Ike, we just all have to pull together Don't lose faith in the hard work of the Minecraft users Also: To luuk: If I continue my road/rails straight south from my city, I think it will run in front of mob town, and under yours, so we'll have to probably figure out how to connect everything somehow in the near future.
Hahaha, i know that we're going to continue construction, its simply the fact that any actual "connection" is halted until we can get more resources. Its not only gold, but smooth-stone, iron, redstone, and especially labor to do things like Dig tunnels. Luckily, last night i recieved some major assistance from FIVE members, in digging an almost 200 long 5x5 tunnel for the rail-lines, at absolutely no cost to me(they donated their time), which really helped the rail-line out. We can always continue constructing where the rails will go, we just wont be able to do finish it until we GET the rails.

Of course you know I am happy to offer my time for something like this whenever I can. as long as i have a general idea of what I am supposed to do.
Okay, cool. I wasn't sure what was up Ike. Sounded like you need a pep talk. haha. And If we need smooth stone -> like I said before, I'm hollowing out an area that is roughly 160x160x40 under my town, which is providing alot of cobble (and iron actually... which is surprising). Which I've been turning into smooth stone (also for my town) by using the charcoal method (trees -> logs + planks + furnace; I know you probably know this method, but it seems not alot of people do it, and then say they can't find coal *shrugs*). I be on the interwebs stalkin your facebooks... ssssssss Nah, I'm don't do that. I asked you how you build your tree in your town (since I'll be building one myself -> might ask you to do it, if you can and are willing), and I used a shortened version of your name (only the first 3 letters), which was a *kinda* bad word in Swedish (I think), so you corrected me, and told me to use Luuk, or something else I can't remember now...
Maybe you all could convince andy to dramatically drop the prices of rails & powered rails during construction of the actual system, discouraging greifing
