Minecraft Username: My username is TaylorBros22 Suggestion: I suggest that we create a user run council, but we have staff approval of it. (This would mean approval from Phys) Reason: I think that this council would benefit members of the community and it would help to voice the community. The council would be a non-profit organisation, meaning it would be voluntary (like staff). I have done some background searching on this and I have seen that there is an open post regarding this, written by @silencedterror. I think that a new thread should be created to address my new idea. The council will be responsible for the following things: PM'ing/Forum PM'ing users and asking them pre-decided questions which the council will have decided. They will be responsible for making the community a better place. This will include, but is not limited to, getting public opinions, getting staff to do things with suggestions and generally making the community a better place. The council will be chosen using the Forums, and it will always be an odd number of members. The members will only be on the council for a maximum of 6 months, so there will be a constant turn around of players on the council. Only the founder and high ranking members of the council will stay on for longer than 6 months. The members will be chosen by a vote, which will work as follows. Applications open, and then are closed after a couple of weeks. Once they are closed a new thread will be opened which will have all the names of the applicants listed either on a poll or the thread. Users will then vote on the members. Currently there is only one requirement, must be a resident + to apply. Any other Information: Please leave your comments below and tell me what you think! Please also vote on the poll above! If I could get input from SA+ that would also be great! Plugins: N/A
Voting reasons. Odd numbers insures there won't be any ties when propositions are put to a vote. I feel like the problem behind this is that it assumes that staff and players are separated entirely and that this council would act as a bridge between the two. I personally don't believe this is the case, staff members are players as well and see both what goes on on stage and behind the scenes, not just the latter as is the general consensus of opinions. They see the problems just as normal players do and work to get them fixed. There's no difference of opinion between players and staff, everyone wants the same thing for the server so I don't think a council of players is necessary.
As before I still belive this is a good idea. I would have push it even further but I had some issues going on both in ECC and IRL so I had to back off. When my post was up before those against the idea thought that this will create some kind of group of corrupted people that are in for the "fame" and will do nothing to help the community. I don't know maybe that can happen but if it does people will see it and will just ignore the council and it will just die on its own. The previous suggestion and this one I guess are directed towards the community not the staff. If the players approve it- great, but the fact is they wont. Why? Because they were asked for opinion on the matter. My mistake was making the suggestion in the first place. Instead me and eyesee3 should have gathered a few people and do everything ourselfs. That means no elections, no mandates and no real rules who will join as long as they are decent people. If we had done that no one would have complained, but its too late now. The problem was that I trusted the community way too much and I really did overestimated it (a mistake I won't do ever again). Also there is always the question "will the staff listen?'' and they might but I am rather skeptical. When I think about it I am not really sure that the current staff team are able and willing to make the changes that the players want. So even if by some miracle a council is approved by the players there is no guarantee it can still fail if the mods ignore it. The best advice I can give you is to learn from my mistake and do everything without seeking support from the community. Just gather some people you trust, ask some questions around ECC, compile the results and present them to staff. If they do something about it rince and reapear and if they dont... at least you tried, right?
Yes staff should be closer to the players. There should be surveys, asking diffierent players about their opinions on different subjects in-game and on the forums etc. The only similar thing that is close to that is a survey that nicit did recently but I have never seen any results from it or any changes. After those surveys are made actions have to be taken so there are solutions to the problems in the community, economy etc. Thats what I mean by "They should be" and if you can't be that someone else has to.
