What is the best size for a farm if i can locate where chunks end and start using a chunk grid?

I heard 32x32 is the best...but im not too for sure

32x32, 50x50, many layers up. o.o That's what I keep hearing Andrew say, at least. Makes sense, since above and below you is the same chunk and not far away - things will still grow without you needing to be everywhere.

Size wont matter as long as you have enough layers, even if you were to do a 200*200 farm. If you were to make it 30 floors then it would all grow.

Not at the moment it won't. From what I've been testing, you have to be in the chunk (or someone) for anything to grow. Been standing in a 50x50 farm, and only one corner is growing. The corner chunk I just happen to be in. Tested this on multiple areas. The moment I move into the next chunk, pumpkins begin growing again, while any in the previous chunk that have places to grow into stop.

So, at the moment, 16x16x128 is the best way to go.

Hopefully we can get a change to how many chunks near a player can grow. =/

I meant by the time you farm the 30 floors the chunks will have grown. If you planned each floor to 3 cells high, then you could fit 40 floors. Since crops can take anywhere between 1 second and infinity to grow, a decent portion will grow.

    You're not reading, are you?

I did say that, at the moment, a 16x16x128 farm is the best when situated perfectly inside of a chunk. Chunks around this 16x16 farm won't grow until you move into them.

This is why, at the moment, a 17x17x farm is going to drop in efficiency, and will be even worse the larger you make it in width and length.

So while you're farming your 200x200 farm, chunks aren't growing cause you're not in them!

Sorry perhaps i was unclear. If you created a 200*200 farm 40 floors high, most of it would not grow. However if you spent the time in each chunk to get them to grow, by the time you harvest all 40 floors, each chunk would have regrown as you moved through them.

In terms of efficiency, the only farm that will be efficient is the farm with 40 floors. The total size wont matter once you have gotten it to grow the first time. 200*200 farms will still provide massive production capacity, but only if it has multiple floors.

In summary, any farm 128 cells high will be efficient, regardless of size. And any single layer farm more than 3 chunks in size will not.
