It has finally been two years since I joined the staff team! To mark this occasion, I have decided to share my staff app from which I was accepted. It was the very last staff application that wasn't written by me All future applications have at least some amount of my involvement. Spoiler: My Staff Application General Questions How old are you?: 20 What is your Minecraft Username?: clou44 What are your in game ranks?: Pilot, Mayor When did you join ECC?: September 5, 2012 How Many Hours on average do you play during the week? Do you play mostly on weekends, or is it spread out evenly through the week?: I play approximately 5-10 hours a day, every day of the week. What Timezone are you in?: EST, but I generally play 2pm-5pm and 8pm-1am+ Main Questions Why is it essential for a Moderator to control his/her emotions?: I think it is important to control your emotions on the server because it simply makes the server a better place to be. I, for one, would not want to play if people were yelling in chat and calling people names. This is a friendly server and the only way to keep it friendly is by controlling your emotions. Do you have any experience in moderating Xenforo forums or Minecraft servers? Provide links if possible.: I have not been a mod on any other server, but I feel like I can learn quickly. How have you been helping the community grow bigger? How will you be helping the server once you're a Moderator? How would you be making the server better?: To help the server grow, I have recruited irl friends and I have gone out of my way to help newbies. At the moment, I am planning on making my new town a builder-only town, sort of a tutorial town for very new players, where they can learn how to abide by the rules in ECC and move up the ranks. The ECC staff team has a huge emphasis on teamwork and synergy. Why do you think that teamwork is essential for staff in an environment like EcoCityCraft?: I think that teamwork is essential in every environment, especially an online environment like ECC because we cannot see each other in person, so we need to cooperate that much more to make the server a better place for everyone. EcoCityCraft gets a lot of moderator applications. What specifically do you think puts you above the rest of the applicants?: I believe that I am mature, level-headed, and helpful to new players. I am also rather good at putting my thoughts into words. Why do you think that you will not be picked?: I am one of the newer members of ECC, and I think there are probably some other members that have been playing for longer. That being said, I am committed to this server, and it is the only minecraft server that I play apart from my single player. Hypothetical Questions A builder, who has been on the server for a few weeks, has been griefed. You found out the person who griefed this user. The builder is emotionally infuriated. What do you do?: First I would find out if the griefing was in a town. If not, I would explain the rules about griefing in the wild and direct the builder on how to find a town plot to build in. If the grief was in the town, I would encourage the builder to post a grief report on the forums and to contact the mayor of the town the grief was committed in. Two users are arguing about stealing/scamming/property. How would you resolve this?: In this situation I would ask if there were any screenshots taken. I would listen to what each side has to say, and I would determine whether a complaint report is needed or if the situation can be resolved immediately. If a complaint is required, I would direct the users to the proper forum page to complete a complaint application. You see another Moderator online abusing their power. They are "ban/kick happy" and are not abiding by the rules. What do you do?: [ ]Pretend I never saw the moderator abuse their power. [ ]Only report the moderator if I don't like them. [ ]Tell just the admin and state for him to not tell anyone. [ ]Ask my friends what I should do first. [ ]Tell all the staff in the staff section and be open about it. [ ]Tell a few staff members but not the admin. [x]Tell just the admin and let him do what he needs to do. [ ]Keep the abuse to myself if I like the moderator and don't want to wreck the online friendship with them. [x]Take a screen shot for proof. [x]Other. [Specify] In this case, I would first ask the mod in question if they were ok, and see if maybe they had a bad day and if they are displacing their anger onto the players. I would possibly contact a higher-up mod, such as a super-mod/admin/ect. Other Questions Do you consider yourself a risk taker?: I do feel like I am a risk taker, but I also think that I am realistic about what I risk. For example, I do play 1 ticket in a fair amount of ECC lotteries, but only what I am willing to lose. It is a risk because I have a small chance to win, but I have won over 90k before with just 1 ticket. Do you consider yourself a leader?: I am definitely a leader. I am studying to be a teacher at the moment, and I like to help people reach the right decision on their own. I suppose I like to guide people to do the right thing instead of simply telling them what is right, just like the saying "if you give a man a fish, he will eat for a day, but if you teach a man to fish, he will never go hungry." Do you consider yourself good at managing stress?: I think that I am very good at handling stress. I am used to controlling my stress as a college student, and I have several techniques that I use to help manage my stress. Finally, is there anything else you would like to add?: I do hope that I can help the server grow and become a better place as a moderator, but if I am not chosen, I will continue to help builders learn the ropes as a mayor and work on moving up the ranks on my own. I have also decided to thank every member of staff that I have worked with. You have all helped me become the staff member, player, and person that I am today, and I love all of you in a special way. Two years ago already?!? That's crazy. Doesn't seem that long ago we got our blue. You were always great to work with clou, and always an awesome staff member! Congrats on your much deserved anniversary!
Congratulations Clou. I remember the time you were in the hospital and the damn wifi wouldn't let you get through on Minechat or in-game so you and I just talked in the shout box. I am truly proud to say I look up to you and impressed in the achievements you have completed on your time on Ecc. I wish you many more fantastic years to come on staff / on Ecc!
