    Hi.

So we are allowed to sell features that are cosmetic only, and town names are cosmetic. I just claimed a town named "kittycity," and the thought of owning a town named that makes me less than happy.
    https://ecocitycraft.com/forum/threads/town-claim-application-jmichael214.151427/

I understand that renaming towns is not done, because it's a gigantic pain. However -- in the interest of securing revenue, perhaps that pain can be assuaged by making it a feature, sold once for a significant sum of money each time it is used.

I suggest a Rename One Town feature, priced at $25.00. Discuss!

+0, this would be a good idea to bring money into the server, but this wouldn't be automatic, it would be manual which would be a pain for the SA's.

You couldn't make something like this automatic. At least I don't think anyway.

Eh my biggest issue is that's very complicated but behind a $25 paywall I don't see much of an issue on that front.

I could have an issue with the $25 paywall but eh, not game breaking at all.

Andrew, it is the job of us all ECCers to stand in a circle around you as you look at this suggestion and say to you:

Do it! Do it! Do it!

No reason why it couldn't have more requirements to it. For example, the town must be completely empty of members; the town must not have a warp, portal, etc., or must be willing to surrender it.

The pay wall is kind of the point of it, though. You need some limiting factor to make this sort of request uncommon enough not to be a burden on staff. Perhaps $25 isn't high enough.

This would be the way to do it. The $25 USD is fine as is, and the town must also have no portal, pvp area, warp, heal sign, etc. If those features exist, the town will only be renamed upon agreeing to a full removal of all town features. Once the town is renamed, you are fully welcome to reapply for any town features at their regular cost. I believe that is a fair trade in order to rename the town, and also make it a bit easier on those who would process these applications.

I disagree with the no portal/pvp stuff.

Then it's basically the same as a town move (all you have to do is remake the town), and shouldn't even cost USD. Town features should be irrelevant. If you're paying real money and supporting the server nothing should be of an inconvenience to you.

I rated this patato.. because it honestly sucks that its even a thread lol..

Being able to rename a town should have been available from the beginning, in my opinion of course.

25 irl dollars is a lot to spend on this, imo it should be priced about the cheapest of cosmetics are at, like 8-12 buck area.

It's just a one time use of bureaucracy, shouldn't be expensive. It's one more step for some people but it would provide more income to the server for something people want.

It's definitely adding a step in our process but for irl dollars, it's worth it, the applications for town name changes should be enough to solve any disputes as we can leave them to reference.

+1 would definitely buy such a feature at 8-12 bucks and at 25, well, at least it's possible.

$25 and only one town is steep. I'd lower the price significantly, or increase it and allow users to change more than one town's name.

Biggest problem I see is the amount of work that people probably aren't realizing... Once you change a town's name, you have to change every single application that relates to that town. ECC doesn't have a record or archiving system that allows for this to be logical or easy. And considering that the Staff who would do it probably aren't being paid - and they are volunteering - I'm against it. If they were being paid, all the time they spend on doing the work would be "worth it."

There's also the potential problem of the Staff who does these applications and changes having to wait for the confirmation of the USD being paid. And with so many users wanting town name changes at this point, even if it's only one per person... Imagine that workload and pain.

As much as I like the idea of changing town names, it doesn't really seem logical right now. Just use your ability to purchase additional towns under your name/ownership and don't name them dumb things or buy resident-to-mayor.

They could do it similar to how they so town claims. Change the original app, and include a "former town names" in the updated application.

In my situation, though, there is a town named "Kittycity" adjacent to a block of eight towns that I own. If I ever want to expand in that direction, then I have to buy it. In fact, I should never have consented to it being there in the first place. But I don't really WANT to own Kittycity. The player named Kittysomething liked that name. I don't.

I do think part of the solution is that only the official owner can do it -- maybe it should only be available to new original owners after a town claim or official town transfer.

Remember, too -- I can live with "Kittycity" if I have to. I'll just put my ... cat collection ... there or something (note to self: buy some cats). But the primary reason for the idea was my thought "hey, I would totally pay for this town not to be named this." The need for replacement revenue is real. Thus the "SELL" the right is key.

I think KittyCity would be a great name for a red light district *wink wink*
But yeah I think this is an okay solution. The issue is that the goal is to make the cost of it enough to decrease the demand for it so as to not overburden staff, but would it be more or less appealing to use usd over a ton of ecd? Being an inherently broke college kid, $25 seems like too much to spend on a video game (as I prepare to drop $60 on the new Injustice game :p) which should do the trick of lowering the demand just fine.
