Hello there, I'm going to show you guys a simple way to lay down posts for your town. now this is the way i did it and i found it very easy, you don't have to follow, it's help for the people that ask about where and how to place them...

    First Way :

So first what you will need is the following : 4 Signs, these will be used for the posts.. Get around 1,000 Dirt/Grass, these will be used to count the spaces between each post.

So there are 4 posts, A, B, C, and D. Pick one, we'll do A. Put your sign down, where you want post A to be, follow the rest of the picture.....

    Legend : Posts are A, B, C, and D. ❒= Grass block.

    D❒❒❒❒❒❒❒❒❒❒❒❒❒❒❒❒❒❒❒❒❒❒❒❒❒❒❒ C
    A❒❒❒❒❒❒❒❒❒❒❒❒❒❒❒❒❒❒❒❒❒❒❒❒❒❒❒ B

So how it works is, between each post you put down either 98 Blocks, or 198 Blocks depending on the size of your town. (198 Blocks = 200x200) (98 Blocks = 100x100). So once you do that you want to i suggested counting it over a few time, just for you're sure the size's are accurate. Let me know if this Tutorial helped you, or if you're still having problem, i'll be happy to help..
Also if you're confussed with how to do the Cords, i'll be happy to do a tutorial on that as well.

    Second Way :
1.stand at your first post and Hit "F3" look at your coordinates mark them down.

2.pick a direction for your next post and walk 5 spaces.

3.look at your F3 again and see what coordinate has changed and then add 201 or 101 to your first coordinate you marked down.

    4. go to your next post sign 201 away and double check your in the right spot. ( one will be the same the other will be 201 or 101 different)

    5. Place next post sign.

6.repeat above steps until all your posts are done. MAKE sure to double check your posts...

Thanks, Atrox for another way to do it.
    ❒Hope this helped!❒

I would suggest something other than grass or dirt - they may be hard to count on some terrain. Sand or an easily-breakable block from another biome would be easier to re-count.

    Also, you would put 98 or 198 blocks between the signs; if you don't, you'd have a 102x102 or 202x202 town. :b 98 + 2 signs = 100 blocks counted out.

Indeed, thanks. I just thought if the land is un-even and you use sand, it may fall and be a bit of a pain. xD Thanks, Moo. :p

    Or you could just
1.stand at your first post and Hit "F3" look at your coordinates mark them down.
2.pick a direction for your next post and walk 5 spaces.
3.look at your F3 again and see what coordinate has changed and then add 200 or 100 to your first coordinate you marked down.
    4. go to your next post sign 200 away and double check your in the right spot. ( one will be the same the other will be 200 or 100 different)
    5. Place next post sign.
6.repeat above steps until all your posts are done. MAKE sure to double check your posts...

this will end up with your town being 199x199 (you need to add 1 block to the calculation.)

Kuke is right. I learned this the hard way - that is why I didn't mention it in my first post. Too hard to explain for most people, because they already don't know it isn't as it seems. :b Marking out your town with blocks is the most certain way; however, using /getpos or F3 to double-check you are a square/rectagle is good, too.

Actually Jet its the other way its not +1 its -1. so it would be 200 -1 or 100 -1 due to the fact that the base number is also counted

example: 0 to 200 is not 200 numbers its 201 numbers because 0 is counted as a number.
