NOTE: There are some formatting errors in here. I typed this guide out based on previous experience on the server. If any of my text is outdated or does not apply to the server, shoot me a message, and I'll be sure to correct it.

Hey there, two years ago I made this thread like this one to help out newcomers to AEM Survival. I decided that I'd remake it today in light of the new reset. You can check the old one here.

Welcome to the AEM Network Survival Server! This thread serves as a guide to all who are looking for a jumpstart into the server's amazing community. For many years, Survival has been a place for many Minecraft players, new or experienced, to come and hang out together in a family-friendly, grief-free world. In order to maintain the server this way, we employ rules that serve as a guideline to all players that come. Not even staff are allowed to bypass these rules, only enforce them.

    THE RULES:

AEM Survival is best known for its rules that keep the community aligned and working together. Most of these rules have been in place for years, meaning that there is most likely no exception if you break any of these. Other players are held up to these standards, and you are not given a free-pass or exemption if you fail to follow our guidelines.

    1. No griefing or stealing. - We do not allow players to raid bases or steal from other players chests. Even if a chest is unlocked, do not take items without other player's permission. The Factions server is a popular alternative should you wish to do so. You will be banned if you are caught, online or offline.
    2. Do not harass other players or staff. - Survival is meant to be a family-friendly community. You are not playing your part if your sole intention is to be toxic or rude around others. Think before you speak, and treat others the way you wish to be treated. You can be muted or banned if you excessively bother other players.
    3. No hacked clients or x-ray. - Survival is a fair environment where if you work hard enough, you can reach the top. Hacking or using cheats, whether it be x-ray, nuking, ESP, etc. is not allowed here. You will be banned if you are caught.
    4. No duping, glitching, or abusing bugs. - Intentionally exploiting known or unknown bugs will immediately earn you a ban on the server. We hold all of our players accountable that they are not abusing certain mechanics within Minecraft, and being caught in the act allows no exceptions.
    5. Keep swearing to a minimum. - We are a friendly server, and we intend to keep it this way. Using racial slurs or derogatory words is against the rules. Sometimes, we make mistakes and accidentally type these into chat. This is OK. But repeatedly doing so will earn you a temporary mute, a permanent mute, and possibly a ban from the AEM Network.
    6. Don't mention other servers / server IP's in chat. - It may be allowed there, but not here. Advertising other servers is a serious offense on AEM, and will most likely earn you a permanent ban from the network. Keep other servers off our forums and chat, and use other mediums such as Skype or e-mail to send IPs.
    7. Mine in /warp pit and not the build world. - We want to keep the build world clean. If you must mine in the build world, do so with a purpose and be sure to ask permission first. Mining ores in caves you find or gathering dirt on the surface is unacceptable. Farms, like tree farms, are exceptions.
    8. Don't have too many animals/mobs in an area. Approx 20 animals per chunk and 400 mobs for mob grinders. - The players all work together to keep the server lag-free and running smoothly. Having too many mobs in an area is against the rules. Do not AFK at mob-farms or intentionally try to lag out the server. Others are trying to play, and these actions create disturbances at the cost of other players, and the server's integrity.
    9. Don't spam or use caps. - Chat has a purpose to allow communication between players in the server. By clogging or creating eyesores in the chat, you are disturbing many players on the server. Play your part and do not spam CAPS or REPEATED REPEATED REPEATED REPEATED REPEATED REPEATED messages.
    10. PvP is only allowed in the designated PvP areas. - Do not try to kill players unless PvP is enabled in your area. Intentionally dumping lava on players or deploying traps to kill off players is against the rules, and these actions will earn you an appropriate punishment.
    11. Do not impersonate staff or other players. - Attempting to steal the identity of another person is not only a serious felony in real life, it is a serious crime on the AEM servers. Do not try to gain authority by impersonating staff members or notable players. This includes the use of /nick to use a username similar to that of a notable player. You will have this permission taken away if you choose to do so.
    12. No AFK pools or lag machines. Do not AFK at your mob grinder. - As stated before, players try to raise the server's integrity by not lagging the server. Do your part and do not build machines to keep you in the server. Additionally, do not lag the server by standing by spawners for an extended period of time.
    13. Please do not enter other players areas and bother them, without asking if you can be there. - Trying to intentionally inconvenience another player is unacceptable. If you are asked to leave, do so and leave. Staff will intervene if the issue becomes out of hand, or if you repeatedly break this rule.
    14. Do not make threats about DDOS / hacking. - DDoS attacks, or Distributed Denial of Service attacks, are against federal law. Claiming you will DDoS or hack into the server is taken very seriously. Do not joke about this topic. You will be banned from the network.
    15. Please do not post inappropriate links in the chat. - Links to malicious or inappropriate sites can earn you a mute or a possible ban from the network. Pornography, gambling, or known dangerous websites, as well as many other genres fall into this category. Put links in chat with discretion, and do not spam them.
    16. No scamming of any kind. - Whether it be through cross-server trading or simply borrowing an item for a price, do not try to scam a player. This is a serious rule on most of the AEM Network (some servers encourage scamming). Donation scamming is a NO on all servers, however. Be weary when you trade with other players. Make sure to capture evidence (screenshots) when making very large trades, in case you need to report a player.
    17. No inappropriate auctions, items, or nicknames. - Please keep these items PG friendly. Confiscation or removal of the nickname permission may occur if you are a repeating offender.
    18. Please listen to all staff. Rules are subject to change without notice. - Staff have final say in most, if not all situations. Listen to and follow the staff's requests. As long as you respect the staff, they will respect you.

GETTING STARTED AT THE DEFAULT RANK:

You will start your journey at our spawn. Here you will see some information on basic commands and knowledge for every AEM player. New players begin at the Default rank. You will immediately notice that you are not given basic teleport commands like /tpa or /tpahere. This is because you are automatically ranked up to Trusted after 24 hours of playtime on the server. You can check your time played by performing the command /ar check. If you need to be teleported to a friend, politely ask in chat, and a player will come to assist you ASAP.

    The Different Worlds:
The Build World (does not reset)
This is the place where the magic happens. Players create towns our build large farms, working together to create a neat community. Griefing, raiding, PVP, and resource collecting are not allowed here.

The Pit World (resets every 1-2 months)
Need some resources? This is where you get them. The Pit World is a unique feature that started on AEM to attempt to keep the build world beautiful and clean. You can find the portal to the Pit by doing /warp pit or going to /spawn and looking right. Here, you will chop trees, mine diamonds, kill animals, and fight monsters. You are also safe from PVP in this world, so mine at your leisure. Do not build in the Pit World! This world is reset every 1-2 months, and all builds are fair game, as staff do not rollback any damage in this world. You can grief, raid, and collect resources here. NO PVPING.

The Nether (resets every 1-2 months)
The Nether is a free-for-all PVP arena that is free to be explored, if not at a cost. In this world, you are fair game. If you are killed by a player, you should not expect that your items are given back to your. Here, be weary of others and mine with discretion. You can find a portal to the nether by going to /spawn and looking to your left. Do not build in this world. You can grief, raid, PVP, and collect resources here. The Nether is reset every 1-2 months.

The End (resets every 1-2 months)
The End is another PVP world, so be warned. Here, the players can work together or against each other to battle it out against the Dragon. You and your items are free game. Be weary and look around when you collect resources here. Unlike previous worlds, you will need to find a stronghold in the Build World to teleport to the End. Do not build in this world. You can grief, raid, PVP, and collect resources here as well. The End is reset every 1-2 months.

Basic Starter Commands (for Default ranks):
Here on AEM, you have a lot of commands when you first begin. These are some of the most basic and essential commands to get you started.
    • /spawn - This command teleports you back to the server spawn. This is useful when you need to recover health, travel to the Pit or the Nether, farm animals, or even redeem vote keys!
    • /warp pit - This command brings you to the Pit portal, where you will collect your resources to use in the Build World. Do not build in the Pit!
    • /warp shop OR /shop - Here you can access the admin shop on the server. You can buy and sell resources to gain some extra money here.
    • /kit starter - Need some starter gear? We have a starter kit you can use every month in case you die or lose your resources while mining.
    • /warps - This command allows you to list all the warps on the server. Here on AEM, donors are allowed to set warps. While it is against the rules to be killed in the Build world or Pit world by another player, be weary if a warp is set in the Nether or the End. Many players build player shops, which allow you to buy resources that are often cheaper than the server shop. Players also choose to show off their builds, or create EXP farms for new players!
    • /ar check - Want to know how long it'll take you to become a Trusted player on the server? This useful command tells you how long it'll take to be promoted, or how long you've played on the server.
    • /ah - Here on the server, donors can sell items on the Auction House, a GUI where you can buy a variety of things with your in-game money based on prices set by other players. Be sure to check /ah often to get some of the best deals on some items.
    • /m and /r - Need to talk to your friend in privacy? You can privately message your friend using these two commands.
    • /wild - Need a faraway place to create your home? /wild brings you the capability to be teleported to a random location, perfect for creating a new base. Once you are there, be sure to...
    • /sethome - Once you set up your base, you need a way to get back to it fast! Use /sethome to set a personal warp to get back to your place.
    • /home - You can quickly get back to your /sethome by performing /home. It'll take a few seconds to teleport, so make sure you stand completely still.
    • Towny: There is a thread where you can check out some basic Towny commands. Towny is our system where players can buy towns and claim land for extra protection. You can be invited into towns by other players, or visit these towns using special commands. You can find this thread by clicking here.

How to Earn Money! (for Default ranks):
Here on the Survival server, a large part of the community is the economy. You can buy items, towns, and other players services using this in-game currency. It is important for every new player to know the different methods of obtaining money!
    • Sell items in Player Shops or the Admin Shop - Many players buy a variety of items. It is your safest bet to visit player shops and the admin shop and look out for [Sell] signs, which allow you to exchange items for some pocket cash.
    • Vote - Voting not only supports the server, but it also gives the chance for you to earn some pretty cool stuff on all our servers, not just Survival. Start out by navigating to the Vote page on the website, or doing /vote in-game to see the items you can get by voting. Additionally, every vote gives you a vote key, which can be redeemed at spawn by right-clicking the vote crate with your key. You have a chance to earn fabulous prizes, even up to 2K in cash, or a beacon.
    • Politely say in chat that you are selling something - Sometimes, you can't find certain items in shops. Some players are more than thrilled to buy specific items, even off you. Politely, you can ask in chat by saying "Selling x <item> for <price>, anyone interested?" and await a response. If no one responds to your message, sell it at a different time. Do not spam the chat with offers. It is annoying to some and will be addressed by staff if it becomes too excessive.

    Getting Basic Resources (like food):
On the server, we have an animal farm at spawn for anyone interested. There, you can kill animals and obtain meat and leather, which are essential in surviving and enchanting tools, armor, and weapons. Even better, some players would be happy to buy your meat.

WHAT TO DO ONCE YOU ARE TRUSTED:

Congratulations, you made it to the Trusted Rank! You have played on the server for 24 hours, and probably made a friend or two in your travels. Trusted players are given more commands and capabilities than the Default player, as well as a sweet new [Trusted] rank prefix right before your name. Immediately, you will realize that you can teleport to players using /tpa and /tpahere. Additionally, you also get access to the /back command, so if you die, you can teleport back to your deathpoint.

    New Commands (Trusted+):
/tpa <player> - Send a teleport request to another player.
/tpahere <player> - Send a teleport here request to another player.
/back - Teleport back to your previous location or death spot.

    Chest Shops Tutorial:

Now that you're trusted, you're probably looking to get some pocket cash for all your efforts. Luckily, AEM has had chest shops for a long time, giving players the opportunity to be entrepreneurs should they decide to sell items. Below is the format for chest shop signs. You can replace the 10 with whatever number you want. The B symbolizes the price for which players can buy your items for and the S symbolizes how much players will receive should they sell you items in that shop. In order for the shop to work, you must place the sign in a space that is adjacent to a chest. The shop will not work otherwise. NOTE: You do not need both the B and the S in one sign.
