Please people! I don't want to listen to people going, this servers perfect blah blah. I think it's a really good SMP. But there is one, And only, Problem. This server is way too easy. I remember being a new player, and honestly, it wasn't even hard then. What I want to get across is that the server needs a more surviving aspect. I'm going to reference one of tame's posts. He wanted pvp at night, and kaykay said survival is to survive against nature. And that made me think. Well Mr. Nature, there is just about nothing to survive from. I can fly, I'm op, and I have a compass. 10 zombies against me isn't much of a challenge. I feel like some kind of aspect is needed, may it be weather, (e.g. Tornadoes, hurricanes, tsunamis,) or some kind off rare boss mob in the wild, or buffing the mobs. Maybe even custom mobs. I personally would like to have the weather, but for people with huge builds, they can protect them from weather with a special plugin or something. Or we can add an expert world. For survival experts. No fly, no compass, no donator stuff. There is weather, and pvp at nights. This can be in survival or a separate game. And any other survival aspects can be added, boss mobs, buffed mobs, ect. Please reply with feedback, and please don't caps at me for saying I have a problem with this server.
Even though I don't play survival that often, I think buffed mobs is a cool idea. Maybe only at night though?
I really like the idea of natural disasters! but maybe make them like rare or something as they are in real life Your absolutely right wave the server needs more of a survival aspect! Right now the server feels more like simcity instead of minecraft survival.. we should have problems that bring the community together and makes us survive but together (after all it is a multiplayer server). As the more regular players pretty much have everything and all people do is do private builds or talk in chat then join that now non private build... but if we added in things like natural disasters it would require huge relief efforts which would bring the community together to help one another it would also give the server a more thrill factor that survival should have.
Not that harsh Like for instance a tsunami it would only destroy farms and it wouldn't be like a world map event just in a little area But if you got it an earthquake it would be more damaging to the buildings in the area (if there are any-that is) They wouldn't be like whole server events only in little areas once and a while.
With the natural disasters, I feel like you should be able to place sponge (or some block) at four corners and within the sponge it can't be destroyed, for people with huge builds, but the sponge would have to be special and high price in the admin shop or really rare in the wild.
I was thinking about the certain disasters and which ones we could have or not so here it goes Tsunami earthquake volcanoes thunderstorm tornadoes drought/heat wave hurricanes wild fire cold and ice storms avalanches snow and hail storms acid rain meteor shower landslide flood disease sinkhole Do note that these are not global events but mealy certain area (thunderstorm and acid rain might have to be global not sure) I would hope that one of these events might happen like once a day only in random areas on build world. Tsunami A bit of a lag machine but would only destroy limited things like signs ect. It would flush the streets and roof's of costal cities and towns so drowned people might become more of a thing. It would make people maybe make like walls in front of oceans or try and get many sponges Earthquake Same with tsunami a bit of a lag machine but would destroy much much more. Houses would get destroyed streets would get swallowed even small towns might get wiped of the fave of the mc build world. I have seen some mods where the earthquake is more like a massive fissure that splits up. Volcanoes LAG MACHINES so probably not the best even though they would look sick. Thunderstorm Not as much lag as the other two but mearly cranked up lighting like idk 8 at a time of strike which when hit things sets them alite or if a living organism gets striked it would do a decent amount of damage. Damage to towns and cities might be little fires that would be probably ended by the rain (if there was some during the storm but if there wasn't it might get larger) Tornadoes A little lag bit not as bad as the earthquake or tsunami but more than the thunderstorm. More damage would be made if this went through a town than the the thunderstorms and tsunami but wouldn't do as much as the earthquake. Drought/heat wave. My idea of this is more like plants die eg trees/crops/soil drys up to sand or something instead of actual humans or mega destruction. Hurricanes Not sure how this would work but if it does I would imagine it to do much in a much ness of damage like the tornado Wild fire Cause to much lag if not contained eg spawns in the middle of no where so i wouldn't recommend this one. Cold and ice storms You start to lose hunger your in the middle of like the snowstorm and don't have amour on your hunger goes down faster (something like that) Avalanches On mountain has snow... it falls and cause damage like when sand or gravel falls on you. Snow and hail storms snow turns into like ice particles and does damage to you and slows you. Acid rain rain turns green and poisons you (ild imagine this is quite laggy) Meteor Shower Would look cool as do heaps of damage if it was over a city or town but would also be really laggy Landslide Like avalanche but with dirt or sand Flood Like tsunami but lower lying and doesn't start at ocean but rivers and lakes not to laggy i would hope Disease Certain person or creature/food gets infected by eating raw flesh than slowly turns into zombie in where they have the ability to effect others (there choice) but either way other people will try and kill them so they don't get infected (maybe some thought of antidote like golden apple) Sinkhole Like earthquake but a hole quite damaging not as bad as a earthquake but less laggy than a earthquake.
I think it was your own choice to be able to fly etc. because it's a donator rank and you can choose to donate.. You can make survival as easy or as hard as you want in my opinion.
Wow. This is great but one problem with that. That is a damn lot of coding, and mod creating, could be a mod though. Another one is the entire server would have to be reset for that one, to add in the plugins. But this might be good on factions, since things are supposed to be destroyed. Or as I mentioned in the original post, we could make a separate world with all of this.
I want this!!!!!!!! Survival is much to easy even when i didnt have fly it was easy maybe harder to build but in the end no challange...
As much as I like the idea, this isn't really plugin material it's more of a mod, a bit like the extreme weather mods it is a great idea though I can't deny that
There's quite a few servers out there that have made fantastic examples out of what you are suggesting. Plugins can be developed where mobs spawn in hordes and act differently based on player activity, which can invite a really engaging experience. The thing is, that calls for a lot of work, and we've only got two dedicated developers that manage not only Survival, but the entire AEM Network. Certain more attainable features like /home, /warp, etc obviously make the experience easier too, so if we really wanted it to be harder, we could just drop those commands, and maybe enable them in the trusted rank or above, but in either case that's a group decision. I personally feel sandbox games like Minecraft aren't really difficult after you learn the ropes. The only sort of game-port I've seen that really pushes survival was Shotbow's implementation of DayZ in their server, MineZ. In the end, it should be up to the player to decide their level of difficulty, and that works perfectly, since that's totally dependent on their play-style! A fantastic suggestion, none the less.
