Due to a few incidents recently I feel a few tips should be shared with people.
As many people know, I play almost exclusively on survival, but most of these tips apply to *ALL* servers.

    INGAME Tips:

    1. If you purchase a rank from another player then SCREENSHOT IT.
This should be an obvious one, but apparently it is not. If you purchase a rank and the person who provide it does a chargeback, you WILL be the one blamed, it is a *LOT* of work to resolve if someone else purchases the rank for you, and there is no supporting screenshot or log to help us identify the true offender.
    2. If you're going to enter a PVP area, take only what you can afford to lose.
Again, this should be obvious, but don't take valuable items you want to keep into pvp. If you make a deal (on survival) to return items on death, then screenshot the deal (and inventory) before you begin. If you have FRAPS or another screen-recorder then this can help too.
    3. Read the rules!
Rules vary between servers, what is allowed on one server may not be allowed on another.
    4. If you wish to report a player, PROVIDE EVIDENCE
This can be a video if you are reporting people for hacking/glitch abuse in PVP, screenshots of griefing in action, chat logs for abusive behaviour, etc. If it is a chatlog please provide timestamps
    5. When talking, Imagine your mother will see every word you say.
This goes with "be polite" which should be common sense. If you're not sure if you should say something, do not say it. Everything you say reflects on yourself. Remember this.
    Minecraft Screenshot Locations
    Windows: %appdata%\.minecraft\screenshots
    Mac: ~/library/application support/minecraft/screenshots
    Linux: ~/.minecraft/screenshots

    Connection Issues:
There are many possible causes of connection issues.
If you can see this post, then it isn't because you forgot to pay your bills.
    1. Clearing your DNS Cache.
Open up your command line and enter the following:
    IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS
    2. Checking Mojang Login servers
Nice and simple to check this one, There is a website to give the status of various Mojang services, just follow the link below to check:
    http://xpaw.ru/mcstatus/

If anyone else has tips, please share them here too!

Awesome, this will help many players. For sure, take screenshots of all major deals. If I didn't take screenshots of me buying a rank from someone, I would be 45k out of pocket.

I think a good 6 - Make a home and /sethome. That way once you fall and die in lava the whole server doesn't have to hear you whine about losing all you had.

About the rank purchase, I would like to add in:

    1) Take a screenshot of the deal.

    2) Take a screenshot/video of you paying him, giving items or money. So if rank scammed, we will be able to help you.

    "download imgur"
Just go to the website "imgur.com" and hit "Upload Images" on the top menu (at the left)
This gives you a pop-up, you can drag files across from explorer, you can browse to the files, or if you used PRNTSCRN to take the screenshot hit CTRL+V and it will paste it in to the upload box, and upload easily.
With minecraft you should be using F2 to take screenshots.
    Minecraft screenshots are located in:
    Windows: %appdata%\.minecraft\screenshots
    Mac: ~/library/application support/minecraft/screenshots
    Linux: ~/.minecraft/screenshots

You may want to clarify that when you clear your DNS Cache you should open your command prompt. I know you said command line, and that they are essentially the same thing, but not many people know what that is. If you still don't know what your command prompt is, it is a program that allows you to run some commands to resolve issues with your computer, in the most simplistic of terms. Top open your command prompt, search for "cmd" in your Run pop-up.

    Nice tips otherwise though!

One simple thing to say NEVER DIG STRAIGHT DOWN on any server it can end in a sticky end. :p
