as some other players (and me) already suggested, there should be commands like the /auction stfu (turns off ALL auction notifications) for Lucky/Votes, YT-Links and other chat related plugins/whatever can cause spam.
I would never auction stfu cuz I would miss buying villy eggs for $350. I wanna post the picture I took of that too.
But I would always wonder what I am missing. But everything else would be nice to have stfu like voting and lotto. And the maximum time for an auction should be 1 minute cuz I see 2 even 2.5 minutes and nobody will bid, everyone will say auc e and they will just be butt holes. Or make me an mod or admin to where I can end it myself
Ending Auctions for others, is not a smart idea in the long run. If you had something you wanted to sell at 100$ but you start it at 5$ to get people to bid it up. At 30seconds, I END that auction at 10$ price. The person would be upset at the fact they 1. Lost the item of 100$ value for 10$. 2. Do not have control over their OWN auction. 3. Unfair advantage, Example: Someone auctions something, I wait 30-45seconds, do /bid, then right after do ManualEND making item mine, but no one can complain due to the fact everyone complains about long auctions. How would that be fair? If you guys can come up with good reasoning, maybe something can be implicated. Also, keep in mind, most folks put overprice things in auction because they do not really want to sell it, but if someone is in more need/desire for that item will bid on the price. Another note, what would you do about those people that just log-in in the middle of an auction. Half of 2mins is 1 and 1 is 30s. If Staff AucE, I can only see both parties getting upset. "Why did you End my auction! so and so was going to bid I know it!" "Why did you end that auction! I sooo needed that item and was waiting last minute to /bid since no one pays attention towards end" "What are you doing! this is my auction!" Honestly I just see problems. Even if the time of the auction changed to 1minute. You would still have those individuals that would complain further. "Why are you auctioning everything at 1minute! You are only selling 10 cactus's at 100$" "Stop wasting time, no one bidding" This will never end. But if someone can figure something out, I'm more then happy to listen. I Love A Good Debate, Lets go =)! As for spamming links. If "I" see this, it will come with warn, follow by warn, followed by kick, then temp ban, then temp ban longer, then ban. Those are a lot of chances. I understand about spamming links.
thats alot u'r right in many things BUT... first i'd say 60 seconds MAX for everyone would be absolutely fine and reduce auction spam for everyone! (noone needs 2min 30 sec auctions with 0 bids tbh) next thing - if you sell something worth 100$ starting at 5$ thats either dumb or (in most cases imo) u want to cause alot of small bids = SPAM. same thing for cancelling auctions... some ppl auction e.g. diamond blocks starting 5$ with 5$ bids and cancel coz it doesnt go up to 1k in 20 seconds... thats just 30 lines of chat (which is spam to me) and a canceled auction.
I'm saying about when everyone is saying auc e and nobody wants to bid to where the auction can be ended. It usually happens when alot of people are on and someone who just bought elite and they want to get as much money as possible and make a really long auction for something overpriced. 60 seconds would be a great change cuz it wouldn't take to long for the next auction. Also I was joking a little about ending the auction but I like all the good ideas. And I thought that a book could be written in the game and gave to everyone with /kit elite+ that says a good starting price for each item for an auction. I would be happy to do that if it would be considered being put in the game
I have got the BIGGEST hatred towards people who auction for 1min+ and doesnt auc e when no one bids!
Plus, I had a huge go at someone who auctioned 1 cow spawn egg for 3000 and for 2 mins (I never snap at anyone) but I just got extremely annoyed today. There were like 5 people who were doing it and I just lost it xD
Here are some potential ideas+thoughts then; -They probably wont want to turn off the voting rewards because its an incentive for people to remember to vote and for newcomers to vote as the announcements don't crop up very often (maybe a voter perk? eg if you have voted that day at least once it turns them off for you). -As for the auctions I think scheduling simultaneous auc's could work but would be insanely confusing and hard and make more problems. Maybe you could look into a trading/auctioning zone that runs on its own chat? (I understand this may upset a few people including me a little but its still a feasible idea). Or how about you just terminate auctions that are ongoing after say 20-30 seconds of inactivity. The computers can do this and then no-one has any right to complain because in time it will become the norm. Or you can just deal with the auctions ignorning the one's that don't appeal to you and bidding on the ones that do, I take advantage of the auc right after a boring one because no one is playing attention so I get to win -As for the spamming links well sometimes everyone else is enjoying it but you and in that case its not really spam is it I mean its a sticky situation you can hide the chat thingy I do it sometimes or maybe a link time out so you cant post more than one link per minute or something like that?
How would you do more then one auction. How could you tell the difference in the auction and /bid is for this or that. Bomm saying 5$ start is dumb is ignorant in itself. Auction is an Auction it is not a Buy It Now function thus have to start at a lower rate then actual to get bites. Geez I really wish people took some form of basic marketing/economics to understand where I am coming from. Also low rate could also be put because the actual person himself/herself did not do enough research into the product they are trying to sell, so they start low to see the peak of the price. All this argument is from lack of patience's. Nothing more and nothing less. =) This is not he first or second time this has been mentioned, about the auction. I would go through and link the other posts about the same topic, but right now I am not at a computer but on a cellphone. Best way to go about this honestly is lecture them with Kindness. Or instead of yelling and using hostile action, guide and teach them the market prices for products.
This sounds a lot like my senior year in high school xD. But Hwangbo is right. If you want a "Buy it now" kind of thing use the trading. I usually use auctions to find out how expensive an item could go far and what the average is. Most auctions start low and bids increase, but if you use an auction and then cancel it because thats not the price you want to sell, then why did you put the price so low. If you havent taken government and economy in high school, youll learn all this soon
I really like @ilivetofly 's idea about a robot on the server automatically canceling/ending an auction after 20-30 seconds of inactivity. That would help a lot, it will automatically override the 2min 30sec auctions.
20-30 seconds with 1/2 warnings to say there was going to be a canceling at say 20+25 seconds would work, no one would then be able to complain because the impatient people get a cancelling feature, the bidders get time to bid and the person doing the auction can have a long auc if there is activity. I wouldn't be that hard really considering there's already the anti-snipe in place.
